I’m pretty ritualistic when it comes to my caffeine consumption – coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon. And my morning brew must be hot. Piping hot. Even in the dead of summer, I cannot get into iced coffee. I don’t care if it’s cold brew or nitro brew or whatever new hipster thang is at Starbucks. Hot and frothy coffee all the way. Pour over style. With just a dash of cream or cashew milk. Di-vine.

But iced tea? Specifically iced tea lattes? SO MY JAM.

An overhead view of an iced london fog latte garnished with lavender leaves. A healthy, sugar free, dairy free ice tea latte recipe!

For years I rocked iced chai lattes, and then a few years ago I took a trip to Canada and fell head over heals for the london fog. Now I regularly switch between the two and my afternoons couldn’t be tastier.

What the Heck is a London Fog?

If you’ve never had a london fog, iced or hot, you’re in for a treat. I fell in love with this aromatic, slightly sweet, slightly citrusy tea latte on a trip to Vancouver Island a few years ago. It has a hint of that distinctive earl grey flavor profile, but mellower and smoother.

Preparing a london fog latte recipe - brewing earl grey tea with lavender leaves for a refreshing, healthy iced latte recipe.

The base of a london fog is a brew of earl grey tea with a dash of lavender. Then it’s sweetened with vanilla syrup and topped with steamed milk. We’re gonna walk on the healthy side and use vanilla extract, liquid stevia, and cashew milk. Same smooth, soothing flavor minus all the sugar. SO GOOD.

    Why an Iced London Fog?

It’s hot outside. Waaaaaah. Also, I don’t really like regular iced tea.

Three iced london fog tea lattes on a marble cutting board with a striped napkin and small jars of dried lavender and earl grey tea leaves.

Sacrilege! I know. But I find it too astringent, and sweet tea is just way too sweet. I’m the worst south-of-the-mason-dixon-line transplant ever.

Enter iced earl grey tea. Combined with lavender, it’s a super refreshing, just sweet enough combination that’s made for summer afternoon sipping.

How to Make an Iced London Fog

Making your own london fog iced latte at home is super easy. You’ll probably find all of the recipe ingredients at your local grocery store. The only tricky-to-source ingredient is the dried lavender leaves, but they are widely available at Whole Foods, Mom’s Organic Market, and local health food stores. Plus you only need a little, so it’s not too costly!

A tablespoon of loose leaf earl grey tea next to a small jar of lavender leaves for a london fog tea latte recipe.

I like to use loose leaf earl grey tea. Mostly because my mother in law gave me a beautiful loose leaf tea diffuser for my last birthday, and I feel super fancy when I use it. You can use a tea bag with loose lavender leaves – just strain out the lavender when it’s done steeping.

Earl grey tea and lavender leaves brewing in hot water for a london fog latte recipe.

We’re gonna brew this in half the recommended amount of water for twice the recommended steeping time. We want a good, strong brew. After you pour it over the ice, it’ll dilute a bit and be just right.

A woman pouring earl grey tea brewed with lavender into a glass of ice for a refreshing paleo london fog latte recipe.

Pour the tea into a glass filled with lots of ice. You don’t need to wait for it to cool or anything. Since we brewed it double strength, it can stand the dilution.

Now we sweeten. A few drops of liquid stevia (or your favorite sugar substitute) and a dash of pure vanilla extract. I know, I know – vanilla extract is like whoah crazy expensive these days, but you just need half a teaspoon. I promise it’s worth the splurge.

Pouring cashew milk or almond milk into an iced london fog tea latte.

Finish it off with a splash of nut milk (or regular milk if you don’t need to rock dairy free). I use cashew milk in my lattes and iced lattes. It’s so dense and creamy, and much closer to regular milk than almond milk.

Give it a stir and garnish with some lavender leaves to feel uber fancy! The aroma of the fresh leaves on top is lovely.

Ditch Starbucks and make this healthy, homemade iced london fog at home! Brewed with lavender, it’s a sugar free, dairy free, refreshing summer iced tea treat.
    Prep Time: 5 minutes mins
    Steeping Time: 10 minutes mins
    Total Time: 15 minutes mins
    Servings : 1
    Calories: 6

    Recommended Equipment

    • Tea kettle
    • Loose leaf tea pot
    • Fine mesh sieve
    • 10 ounce glass

    Ingredients

    • 1 tablespoon earl grey loose tea, or 1 tea bag
    • ½ teaspoon dried lavender flowers, plus extra for garnish
    • 4 oz boiling water
    • 3-5 drops liquid stevia
    • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • ¼ cup cashew milk, or almond milk
    • ice

    Instructions

    • Set a tea kettle over high heat and bring water to a boil.
    • Place the earl grey loose tea and dried lavender into a loose leaf tea pot or tea ball infuser. (See notes for tea bag method). Pour half a cup of boiling water over the tea leaves and steep for 10 minutes.
    • Fill a 10-ounce water glass with ice. Strain the hot tea over the ice. Add the liquid stevia, vanilla extract, and cashew or almond milk and stir. Taste for sweetness and add another drop or two of stevia if needed. Garnish with lavender leaves if desired. Drink immediately.

    Notes

To brew with a tea bag, place the tea bag and lavender leaves into a mug, then pour the water over. Steep, then remove the tea bag. Place a small fine mesh sieve over the water glass, then pour the tea into the glass, straining the lavender leaves into the sieve. Proceed as directed.

Hey, definitely making this today during this heat wave – thanks for posting! But I think you mean lavender buds or flowers, not lavender leaves!

LOVE this!!! My 13 year old introduced me to Starbuck’s Iced London Fog and I was hooked. Was so happy to not only find a diy, but find it’s done with stevia and I can use soy milk!! Yay!!!
My daughter was skeptical, but was SHOCKED it was so good. She stole my glass-full. 😂 Now… to see how we can duplicate the caramel syrup she has added a Starbuck’s, but without the calories.
THANKS SO MUCH! Good job. ☺️

To replicate the caramel flavor, I would recommend Jordan’s Skinny Syrups. They have so many flavors, with 0 calories for all of them. I really love the syrups and put them in everything!
